In 1980, Jim Sanford bought a beer license from Lower Bucks and brought it to Quakertown, PA, looking for the perfect place for a beer distributor. He found an empty toy store in the Quaker Village Shopping Center by the name of Toy City. To save money, he replaced the word “Toy” on the outside sign with beer, hence, the name Beer City. Looking to retire, he then sold the business in 1996 to the current owners, Bert and Sara Jones of Quakertown. It was Bert’s ambition to operate and own a successful beer distributor with the help of his family and employees. He has made Beer City one of the most successful beer stores in Bucks County.
